BR23C, the robot inspired Nissan bees

After Honda and Sony, it’s the turn of the Japanese manufacturer Nissan to get into robotics. Indeed, thanks to the Center of Advanced Technologies of the same firm (in collaboration with the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo) BR23C that the robot was born. At first sight it is an ordinary robot, but it uses a detection system inspired by bees.

The bee sends waves oval at 300 degrees around it that enables it to detect obstacles and avoid them. BR23C uses this same system (with its laser) but it is limited to 2m distance and at 180 degrees. When it detects an obstacle, the robot can avoid it and then continue its route as if nothing had happened. Directions of its possibilities are not limited since it can rotate on itself.

The purpose of the launch of this project is to produce in a more or less, cars that can avoid collisions.
