World Cup football for robots

This year’s football World Cup “RoboCup” takes place in Germany from 14 to 20 June 2006. The competition generated by the “RoboCup” should encourage research in artificial intelligence and the robotique. In Indeed, this initiative “RoboCup is an excellent way to assess the progress made in robotics. For Ubbo Visser, organizer of the competition and a doctorate at the University of Bremen, football offers the best challenge to robotics: “it is a very dynamic situation where the systems must react to the thousandth of a second. robots work in real time, must be totally independent but must also cooperate with their partners. In addition, they are opposed to competitors who try to destroy their strategy. ”
During this 10th edition of “RoboCup”, 11 leagues have been created following the specific research. Thus there are robots with wheels warmest (Systems Engineering), 4-legged robots autonomous and tactics (complex software), robot-rescue comprehensive (mapping tools, IR sensors, microphones …), robots bipèdes humanoids (problems of balance and mass).
Germany remains the most mobilized on the subject in Europe through a federal program that funds 13 laboratories. However, a lack of funding, only one French team participating in this “RoboCup”, that of Peter Dominey CNRS Lyon. It presents a home automation system, capable of moving in a room and follow the orders of a human and manipulate an object (for example a can in a refrigerator). The challenge of this category of robotics is then cognition robots.
Alongside this 10th World Cup RoboCup, SARL Metro Labs and the Technical University of Ilmenau. present their latest inventions: two interactive service robots HOROS and SCITOS G5.
The research links these two organizations Ilmenau in a joint project supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and scientific thuringeois. This cooperation should enable the region of Thuringia to develop, produce and market in the world of interactive mobile robots offering different services.
